Arkansas kicked off the Woo Pig Classic today at Bogle Park against the 19th ranked Baylor. Baylor comes into the game 13-2 on the year. This years Classic field is loaded with talented teams. Villanova, Kent State, and Florida State join Baylor and Arkansas.
Autumn Storms took the mound vs the Bears and coming into Game 1, she has a 7-0 record with 40 strikeouts. For the Lady Bears Gia Rodoni took the mound. Gia comes in today with a 7-1 record and 62 strikeouts.
Baylor threatened in the top of the second with back to back hits but Storms got out of the jam when Danielle Gibson threw home and Kayla Green applied the tag for the second out of the inning and Storms followed it up with a strikeout.
In the top of the 3rd Alyssa Avalos crushed a HR over the centerfield wall to give Baylor and 1-0 lead. Arkansas couldn’t get anything going in the bottom of the 3rd to keep it a 1-0 Baylor lead. In the bottom of the 4th Braxton Burnside blasted a 2 run homer to give Arkansas a 2-1 lead. Rodoni gave her 3 straight change ups and she took the previous pitch over the fence but foul. She connected on the very next pitch almost sending it into the road. The next couple innings both teams struggled to get a hit.
In the top of the 7th Baylor got 2 runs to take a 3-2 lead and hold off the Razorbacks for the win. Arkansas drops to 12-3 on the year while Baylor improves to 15-2. Razorbacks continue playing in the Wooo Pig Classic tomorrow afternoon against Villanova.
