Ladybacks Continue Hot Streak, Defeat Lady Vols 83-75


Fayetteville, Arkansas- Arkansas riding a 2 game win streak hosted the Tennessee Lady Vols who are coming into tonight game 17-8 (7-5) while the LadyBacks are 20-5 (8-4) on the season. 

Huge night for the LadyBacks as they hit 11 threes 9 coming from Alexis Tolefree and Amber Ramirez and they knock off the Tennessee Lady Vols Thursday night in Bud Walton Arena.

LadyBacks stared the game off going 0-5 from the field and  Tennessee used their size to jump out to a quick 6-0 lead but Amber Ramirez started off hot and hit 7 quick points to make it a 12-9 game halfway through the 1st quarter. Ramirez added another three from way down town to tie the game at 12.

Tolefree knocked down a runner to take a 18-16 lead into the 2nd.

Arkansas started to pick up the pace a little stretching the lead out to 6. The LadyBacks were all over the floor hustling on defense grabbing up loose balls and converting into points. Alexis Tolefree knocked down a 3 and Taylah Thomas got an and1 knocking down her free throw making it a 24-18 game with 4:00 left in the half. Arkansas kept the pressure causing 15 first half turnovers and took a 33-25 lead into the locker room.

Arkansas started off the second half much like the first starting off 2-12 shooting but their defense and tenacity kept Tennessee at bay. Tennessee went inside and used their height to their advantage making it a 2 point game but Makayla Daniels came back with a 5 quick points then got a steal and assist to AmberRamirez who knocked down a three sending the fans into a frenzy. Arkansas was getting huge baskets every time Tennessee tried to cut it close going into the fourth up 58-46.

Tennessee started off the 4th with a ¾ court press defense to switch things up causing confusion on the early minutes of the quarter but Arkansas had an answer with the three ball. Tennessee went on a little run cutting the lead to 6 with 1:14 left in the game but The duo of Ramirez and Tolefree wasn’t letting it happen tonight combining for 51 points on the night as Arkansas pulled out the win 85-73. Amber Ramirez has a season high 29 points and Alexis Tolefree added 22 as the LadyBacks got a huge SEC win tonight moving them to 21-5 on the season and 9-4 in SEC play. They are sitting in 3rd place in the conference with 3 games left. For Tennessee they were led by Rae Burrel with 21 points and Rennia Davis chopped in 18. The loss drops the Lady Vols to 17-9 on the year and 7-6 in SEC. Up next for the LadyBacks is Florida on the road Feb 23rd.
